SUPPORT OUR SOCIETY: BECOME A MEMBER!

Membership of our Society provides free admittance to all our mills and to the Mill Museum. Moreover each quarter members will receive our colourful and interesting magazine De Windbrief. The Society of Zaan Mills was founded in 1925 with the purpose of preventing the disappearance of the last of the more than 1,000 windmills that were built over the centuries in the Zaan District. Its first success was the restoration of oil mill De Zoeker. Three years later, the Mill Museum was opened. Now, 84 years later, the Society possesses 12 historic and picturesque industrial mills and a unique mill museum. The mills are an important part of our cultural heritage and continue to this day to determine the Zaan skyline. Thanks to the support of more than 3,600 members of whom a large number are active volunteers and to the support and sponsorship from government and the business community our Society has been able to keep its current portfolio in excellent shape.
These combined efforts have created a unique tourist haven which yearly attracts an extensive group of visitors from all over the world. Maintenance and restoration, education programs and sharing the significance of our windmill history form the core of our activities. This important work cannot be accomplished without community support and a committed membership. Consequently the Society would warmly welcome you as a new member.
