The Zaan mills, a unique story
A unique story, full colour
This book is about the mills in the Zaan district. In the period 1500-1900 there were more than a thousand of them. These were special mills, because they were used to process raw materials into products on a large scale. Tree trunks were sawn into boards, timber and minerals were converted into pigment, spices were ground, paper was made, oil was pressed and Dutch rusk was made.
